Sarah Miller teaches French at Mary Elton and All Saints East Clevedon Primary Schools, from Reception to Year 6; she has done this for over 10 years. She gained much from her training as a foreign language specialist from North Somerset Council and become a Lead Teacher herself. She has now trained other teachers to develop their language teaching skills.
Keen to link her pupils’ language learning to real life, Sarah has forged strong links with schools in France and Reunion Island, which add greatly to her teaching. These activities have helped both of her schools to gain International School Awards, as well as to open her pupils’ eyes to the opportunities that are open to language learners.
A graduate in French and Italian, Sarah is also now working to revive her skills in Spanish too, to be able to teach it and to train others. She is keen to help all teachers to develop their skills as language teachers, to encourage creativity in their teaching and to increase confidence and ability in those who feel resistant or unskilled.
Sarah was terrible at PE at school, but now loves keeping fit, being a keen member of Clevedon Pilot Gig Club and taking part in Parkruns . She is now training for her first 10k run. She has encouraged work colleagues to start the Couch to 5k programme, as she finds getting out and walking or running a great way to clear the head after a busy day teaching.
