Grounding and Calming Techniques for Anxious Children – Cohort 3


Starting 21st April 2020



This three part course is aimed at SENCO’s, learning mentors, TA’s, LSA’s, HLTA’s and staff who run SEMH interventions.

Part 1: Understanding anxiety and how it impacts on children’s learning. Developing individual and small group programmes to support children who present with high levels of anxiety. What are grounding techniques? What are calming techniques? How do they help reduce anxiety? Many practical ideas and transferable skills are shared. Time: 1.00pm-3.00pm

Part 2: HeartMath is an interactive, biofeedback, computer based programme that helps children visualise their ability to control their anxious feelings and manage intrusive thoughts, thereby reducing their heightened state of anxiety.Time: 1.00pm-3.00pm

Part 3: Drop in opportunity to discuss how the knowledge gained in Parts 1&2 have been used to help staff better understand the pupils in their school. What has worked, what advice could help improve things further – sharing good practise – using the Solution Circles concept to ‘unpick’ sticky situations. Time:4.00pm-5.00pm
