Katharine is Assistant Headteacher at Milton Park Primary School with the main responsibility of EYFS, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and assessment. Since beginning her career in education she has held a variety of roles ranging from English Leader, Reading Recovery Leader to Phase Leader. In her current role she has been instrumental in changing the curriculum and the approach taken to promote pupil engagement and outcomes. Currently Katharine supports staff with assessment and the rigorous analysis of data to ensure pupils attain the desired progress
During her varied career Katharine has worked in a variety of settings and has been influential in successfully re-organising and supporting year groups to implement change. This has led to an improvement in the standards across the year group or phase from EYFS to KS2. As an outstanding practitioner Katharine has been able to make an impact on that year group through working with colleagues in a professional and supportive way.
In her current setting Katharine works closely with her team to ensure a high quality curriculum is delivered. This involved whole team planning meetings to ensure consistency of approach across the year groups. Katharine is passionate about making learning fun and accessible so that all children can succeed.
Prior to becoming Assistant Headteacher Katharine was a specialist Reading Teacher where she trained for a year to become a Reading Recovery Teacher. This has had huge impact on the reading approaches taken in the school. This progressed to whole school training and the introduction or Reading Assistants. Additional work with the reading data ensures that children in need of extra support are quickly identified and the required implemented as needed. This work has also been introduced in other settings. Children who take part in these opportunities show accelerated progress.
Katharine has had over 20 years ‘of experience across the primary age range as a classroom practitioner but, a subject leader and a phase leader being instrumental in securing positive judgements in EYFS in her setting and building a successful team around her.
In her role as subject leader Katharine has presented and worked alongside other leaders. As English Leader she has worked with her team to improve writing within the setting and the impact of this has been substantial with the standard of writing within the school showing substantial improvements improvements .Katharine also promoted distributed leadership to allow her team to take ownership and become empowered in their specific areas.
