Course Content:

Day 1: Identifying learners with dyslexia

  • The key signs of dyslexia, how it manifests in the classroom and why it is different to low literacy
  • What dyslexia looks and feels like to the learner
  • Teacher assessments to screen for dyslexia before recommending further assessment

Day 2: Supporting learners with dyslexia

  • Setting up a dyslexia friendly classroom
  • Differentiation to improve the outcomes for learners with dyslexia
  • The Dyslexia Friendly Toolkit

Day 3: Improving literacy skills for learners with dyslexia

  • Introduction to the multisensory specialist teaching approach
  • Supporting learners with dyslexia using IT and apps
  • Improving their confidence and increasing their success with literacy tasks

This course requires a minimum number of participants.

Kelly Challis (PGCE, AMBDA)

  • 15 years experience in supporting learners with Special Education Need and disabilities
  • Previous Head of Learning Support in two Preparatory Schools
  • Experience of working in Primary and Secondary Schools as well as delivering training programmes in Further Education and Higher Education
